Favorite body and hair care products of 2016

I normally focus on skincare here at sunhyemi.com, but today I’m branching out and sharing my favorite body and haircare products, to make sure that every inch of you is looking and feel lovely.

Vichy Ideal Body Milk-Serum

I have not long discovered the Ideal Body Milk-Serum moisturizing body milk, but it immediately became a must-have in my beauty stash due to its skin-firming and hydrating properties. Formulated with Hyaluronic Acid and Essential Oils, it has a hybrid lightweight texture somewhere between a milky lotion and a gel. It absorbs easily without any sticky residue to leave my skin extremely smooth and hydrated, not to mention glowy thanks to the light-reflecting particles. The delicate biscuity scent even goes perfectly with my favorite perfume, Si by Armani – more about that later!

Cosrx Clarifying Treatment Toner AHA/BHA & BHA Blackhead Power Liquid

Sometimes a product can seem all wrong for you – then you find a alternative use which makes it worthwhile. That’s what happened with these two cult products. Initially, they were some of my biggest disappointments as I found them irritating on my sensitive dry skin, but then I found I could recycle them for other beauty purposes. These acne fighters were too strong for my face, but are a great solution to back acne. They also work as a deodorant, and but where they really shine is as a powerful ingrown hair treatment. In fact, things that bothered me about these products before are now positives. For instance, I found the spray cap of the toner annoying when I tried it on my face, but now I simply love it as it allows me to spray my whole leg in a matter of seconds. The serum has a very liquid texture, so you only need two to three pumps for one leg. This duo works even better for ingrown hair than Skin Doctors Ingrow Go.

Paula’s Choice Resist Skin Revealing Body Lotion with 10% AHA

The Resist Skin Revealing Body Lotion leave-on chemical exfoliant became one of my most loved body care product last year. Unlike regular scrubs that exfoliate the skin with microbeads, this one contains 10% of glycolic acid to smooth skin’s texture and tone, minimizes razor scars and shed built-up layers of dead skin. As well as increasing skin cell turnover, it also moisturizes and nourishes your skin in one product. Since day one this moisturizer provided me excellent results and now I no longer use physical exfoliants. That’s good news for my skin, as they can be very harsh, and great news for the ocean, where microbeads end up, often harming wildlife. Like the products above, it has a hidden use. I like to apply it to my underarms to lighten them and keep them perfectly smooth.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel

I have been looking for a gentle shower gel that would soothe and nourish my sensitive dry skin for while, and I finally found one in a French pharmacy. French pharmacies are full of outstanding beauty products, and Nuxe’s are pretty much a staple here in Paris. The Rêve De Miel is an ultra-rich gentle face & body cleanser with a delicious scent and terrific texture like honey that leaves your skin silky soft, perfumed and moisturized.

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

Another Nuxe favourite, I had seen this beauty oil for years in my mother’s powder room but I never tried it until I moved to Paris. L’huile prodigieuse is a big deal amongst French women; everyone, and I mean everyone, has it. That’s because, despite the price, this heavenly-smelling product is very multi-purpose. My entire body has benefited from this dry oil. I use this sensual blend of precious plant oils and extracts as a hair treatment,  a body oil, and sometimes as a facial night oil before my night cream. I even blend with some of my thicker foundations, to thin out the formula and create a more glowing and dewy result.  as a foundation blender, and sometimes as a facial night oil before my night cream. The new formula contains Tsubaki (Camellia) Oil, which is the perfect ingredient for dry, thick, unmanageable hair, especially when used alongside the Tsubaki Extra-Moist line from Shiseido.

Shiseido Tsubaki Extra Moist Shampoo & Conditioner

Like my skin, my hair can be dry and sometimes difficult, but this line has been a Godsend over the past year. In fact, it’s an all-time favourite of mine. Apart from the Giovanni Smooth As Silk line, nothing makes my hair feel so soft, hydrated and shiny. The conditioner’s smoothing abilities are impressive : it turns dehydrated and unmanageable hair remarkably smooth in less than two minutes. This line may be a little expensive, but the results are worth every penny.

Schmidt’s Deodorants

I have super-sensitive armpits, and most deodorants leave my underarm skin irritated and uncomfortable. After many disastrous experiences, I began searching for an all-natural deodorant without aluminium, and chose Schmidt’s Lime & Bergamot because I like fresh scents. So far I really like it, despite the fact that the waxy consistency means I need to wash my hands after use. This makes it slightly more cumbersome than traditional deodorant sticks, but that’s a small price to pay for this effective and gentle product.

Armani Si Body-Lotion

I’m usually not too keen on spending more than $30 on a body moisturizer, but since I absolutely adore the Si perfume I had to buy the body moisturizer as well. It is super lightweight and helps the subtle scent off the perfume linger on all day long. I wouldn’t recommend applying it all over your body every day, as it’s expensive and the high quantity of fragrance can irritate skin, but it’s everything if you are a fan of the perfume.

First of all, I love your blog and I love your aesthetic!
I just started to incorporate Korean products into my skincare regime and I can already feel a huge difference on my skin! I live in Mexico and it is hard to get my hands on most products, that being said I am trying to discover K-beauty substitutes. I was wondering if you had any take on pure Propolis? Bee products such as Propolis, bee venom, pollen and royal jelly are a huge deal hear and are easily obtainable. A year ago I started using Propolis soap on my face and it got rid of most of my excess sebum, currently I use the two-step cleansing method and my mixed/oily skin is much happier! I still want to incorporate Propolis in my skincare regime in some way, maybe a few drops in my moisturizer, or on its on as a serum?

      Hello Nina,

As a vegan I try to avoid propolis as much as possible so I can’t help you with that. 🙂
