Sleep is one of the most important aspects of good health, and without a substantial-quality and quantity of sleep, things go wrong pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, though, not everyone can put their head to the pillow and fall asleep for 8 hours without trouble.

Melatonin is a hormone that’s produced naturally within the body and has the job of controlling your sleep cycle.

The body produces melatonin when it gets dark and encourages sleep. During daylight, melatonin levels in the body reduce and therefore you feel less sleepy.

This change in melatonin levels throughout the day is what’s known as the circadian rhythm.

The circadian rhythm creates and supports sleep drive.

Sleep drive is simply put, the drive to want to sleep. When it gets dark and melatonin increases, we feel the desire to sleep more, and when it’s daylight and melatonin levels decrease, we feel much less of a desire to sleep and hence we don’t have an issue wanting to sleep during the day.
