Best Green Superfood Powder

Best Greens Powders & Superfood Supplements Reviewed (Top Picks for 2021)

It can be challenging getting your daily required nutrients, even for the most health-conscious person.

I know because I struggle to consume enough greens each day. Having lived with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for more than 20 years, I truly understand the importance good nutrition plays in keeping me healthy and strong.

That’s why after TESTING OVER 40 of the best-selling greens powder brands, I went ahead and developed my own superfood supplement allowing me to add the MOST effective ingredients in the RIGHT dosages.

So, along with listing the best greens powders, I will answer: are greens powders worth the money? And if they are, what you should look for when buying a superfood supplement.

My 9 Best Greens Powders (2021 Updated)

From testing over 40 different popular brands greens powder I narrowed it down to 9 superfood supplements and green powders out on the market.

Best Greens Powders & Superfoods That Work

  • Best Greens Powder Overall – SuperGreen TONIK
  • Best Tasting Greens Powder – Athletic Greens
  • Best Value Greens Powder – Green Vibrance

#1 SuperGreen TONIK (Best Greens Powder Overall)

Adam holdings SGT tub

SuperGreen TONIK is not your average greens powder. It’s actually the world’s first 7-1 optimized body and brain formula.

* Full transparency I disclose that I own this brand.

#2 Athletic Greens Ultimate Daily (Best Tasting Greens)

Athletic greens my honest review

Athletic greens are one of the first green superfoods I came across and what started my interest in these products. I am very much a fan of this brand, I enjoy the taste and like what the company is doing.

However, what I didn’t like is the lack of ingredient transparency and for the cost of a one-month supply, I’m disappointed not knowing exactly what’s in their formula.

This is one of the most expensive brands on the greens market and claims to be the ultimate daily supplement that includes superfoods, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and even mushrooms in one daily scoop.

If money is not an issue and you don’t mind NOT knowing the exact ingredient breakdown, then this all-around greens powder could be a good choice.

  • Contains 75 ingredients, including probiotics
  • Vegan friendly
  • Tastes great in water or smoothies
  • Popular with athletes

  • Proprietary blend, no full disclosure of ingredient amounts
  • Not the most affordable

#3 Vibrant Health Green Vibrance (Best Value Greens)

Green Vibrance Green Superfood powder

I would rate Green Vibrance in my top 3 green superfoods if it wasn’t for a couple of negative points. There is however a lot to like about this green powder superfood from Vibrant Health!

First off, there are lots of ingredients in Green Vibrance (70 in total) but thankfully all the ingredients are revealed, including their amounts.

I quite like Green Vibrance, I even enjoyed the taste. The downside for me was the sheer number of ingredients, which means that the dosage amount was on the low side. This means you would need to take 2-3 servings per day to get a decent serving of some ingredients.

The last negative is the trace amounts of milk and soy, and the fact they use a highly processed vanilla flavor. It sort of reminds me of those pre-workout vanilla powders!

  • Contains 70 ingredients, full transparency labelling
  • Budget friend greens powder
  • Okay taste

  • Dosage a little low on some ingredients
  • Taking 2-3 servings per day dramatically increases daily cost

#4 Organifi Green Juice

Organifi green juice review

Also very popular is Organifi Green Juice developed by charismatic health blogger and youtube personality Drew Canole, who for years promoted the health benefits of juicing. These days he promotes his line of superfood powders from green, red, and even gold juices!

Each 9 gram serving of Organic Green Juice contains an organic alkaline green and a superfood blend. Unfortunately, the ingredients are wrapped in a proprietary blend, so we don’t know the exact amount of each ingredient, which is frustrating as it’s critical to know exactly what we are taking.

I like the brand but feel a little let down on the ingredient transparency side. They do offer a 60-day money-back guarantee and regular discounts on offer for the tubs.

  • Packed with 12 superfoods
  • USDA Certified Organic
  • Okay taste

  • Proprietary blend, no full disclosure of ingredient amounts
  • Not the most affordable

#5 Amazing Grass Organic Green Superfoods

Amazing Grass Green Superfood

This Amazing Grass Green Superfood is popular with consumers on a budget. There is a wide range of flavors on offer in different sizes too, so you should be able to find one you like.

Many of the ingredients are Organic and the usual suspects are inside, however, the supplement label is lacking in nutritional information with no details of individual ingredient amounts.

One real downside is the unnecessary filler or anti-caking agent called “silica” that’s included.

The taste is okay, it certainly has more of a “grassy” taste than most of the other Super Greens I have tried. But with such a low price point, this could be easily overlooked.

  • Over 20 ingredients, including probiotics
  • Choice of flavors
  • Budget friendly

  • Proprietary blend, no full disclosure of ingredient amounts
  • Tastes a little grassy
  • Serving size small

#6 Nested Naturals Super Greens

Nested Naturals Super Greens

This green superfood powder will appeal to budget-conscious shoppers looking to ensure they get their daily greens. Nested Naturals is a trustworthy looking brand and certainly appeals to the socially-conscious shoppers.

Each tub contains 8-gram servings of 32 ingredients that are 100% organic, non-GMO, and vegan. A mixture of greens, antioxidants, fiber, and probiotics, are contained within separate proprietary blends – so again no clue as to their exact ingredient breakdown, disappointing.

However, the price of each tub is cheap so if you can overlook the uncertainty over the effectiveness, this may be worth giving a try.

  • Over 20 ingredients, including probiotics and digestive enzymes
  • 100% organic, non-GMO and vegan
  • Budget friendly

  • Proprietary blend, no full disclosure of ingredient amounts
  • Some ingredients under-dosed
  • Serving size small

#7 PlantRise SuperGreens72

Plantrise SuperGreens 72

PlantRise is a newcomer to the superfood scene being released in early 2020.

The formula itself contains a large number of ingredients, nearly 72 in total. These ingredients include adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha, vitamins and minerals, and even probiotics. PlantRise claims to be the most potent super greens on the market today.

In total, there are 72 ingredients included in the formula which many are of premium quality. However, the problem once again is the brand does not fully disclose its formula, choosing to hide its ingredients behind the term “proprietary blend.”

This is somewhat disappointing, to be honest, and sows a seed of doubt in the consumer’s mind about the actual doses contained in the formula.

The brand does claim their formula helps increase energy and focus, supports gut health, and helps bolster the immune system, which it may well do; the trouble is you’ll never know that without knowing the exact doses of each ingredient.

Overall, though, if you take Plantrise on face value and believe the companies’ claims, it seems to be a good choice for those looking to purchase their first super green drink. The serving size is also a healthy 15.7 grams which is excellent to see. Price is on the high side and right up there with Athletic Greens, which may also be something to consider when looking to buy.

  • 72 ingredients included
  • Probiotics and digestive enzymes
  • The serving size is a healthy 15.7 grams

  • Ingredients are hidden behind a proprietary blend
  • Priced on the high side

#8 LiveWell Beyond Greens

Livewell Beyond Greens

The Beyond Greens brand is an environmentally conscious greens company with a philosophy based around ancient medicine and holistic nature. However, in fairness to many of the other brands I have reviewed, most of the leading manufacturers include traditional herbs or ingredients.

LiveWell has a number of different brands, and Beyond Greens is rapidly becoming one of their most popular. The brand claims that the formula helps increase energy, support the microbiome, boost the immune system, and improve overall health and well-being.

On an initial glance, like so many greens supplements out there, it seems to tick all the boxes. I really like the fact they are environmentally friendly and constantly looking at ways to improve on waste; for example, their packaging contains 86% fewer plastics than other leading brands.

The brand’s formula includes ingredients such as potent mushroom varieties, echinacea, Rhodiola root, and a host of other essential nutrients. The brand is also vegan-friendly, soy-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and non-GMO, which a massive plus.

However, the serving size is too small and weighs only 3.7grams, and in comparison to what other leading brands are offering, I’m starting to doubt whether the formula would benefit you at all.

The brand offers complete transparency, which is music to my ears and gives me faith that other manufacturers are trying to do the right thing for their customers. After all, you deserve to know exactly what’s contained in the supplement your purchase.

  • Full Transparency
  • Reputable brand
  • Environmentally friendly

  • Serving size is way too small
  • Not the best value for money

#9 Opti-Greens 50

Opti Greens 50 tub

Opti-Greens 50 is relatively an unknown player when it comes to the superfood greens market. At first glance, the brand claims you benefit from consuming more than 11 vegetables, along with various superfoods, digestive enzymes, and even probiotics, all in one serving.

First impressions are always important, and here my first impression is good. The brand itself seems to be backed up by a very reputable and well-established company called 1st Phorm. The company was founded in 2006 and manufactures a wide range of products across the health and lifestyle sector. They even sell clothing and baggage.

Opti-Greens 50 contains, yep, you guessed it, 50 ingredients, which the brand claims are all highly bioavailable. I’m impressed by this claim, but I wonder how they came to that conclusion and how they went about testing it against the traditional processing methods. The supplement does not claim to be organic, but in fairness, most of their greens contained in the formula are organic. The serving size is 10 grams.

Overall, Opti-Greens 50 seems to be a very reputable newcomer to the scene. Still, for me again, the sticking point is lack of transparency, coupled with small serving sizes, meaning you’re just not getting enough essential nutrients required.

  • Pretty good value for money
  • The brand seems to be very reputable
  • 50 ingredients in total

  • Serving size too small
  • Lack of transparency

What are Green Superfood Powders?

Green powders are made from greens and vegetables and often include nutrients like antioxidants, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and even protein powders.

They make consuming these nutrient-dense whole foods easier as you can conveniently mix them with water, juice, or even add them to your morning smoothie.

Plant-based supplements that contain organic fruit and vegetables are getting more popular each year. I began consuming green powders as nutritional insurance back in late 2018, and rarely skip a day!

Taking a premium quality greens drink like SuperGreen TONIK, gives me peace of mind, knowing I’m getting all my nutrients in just one scoop a day.

Benefits of Green Superfood Supplements

We know the importance of eating a healthy well-balanced diet, but what specifically do super greens powders do for your body?

Health sites such as Healthline, Harvard Medical, WebMD and PubMed, are an excellent source of information specifically regarding the benefits of each ingredient found in super greens.

Improved Energy Levels

These antioxidant-packed green powders can really pack a punch, providing a natural alternative to caffeine-based drinks, without the inevitable crash.

Immune Support

A strong immune system is important in today’s global environment. Nutrient-dense greens contain the fundamental building blocks of a strong immune system often containing lots of vitamins, minerals, and other healthy nutrients.

The effectiveness to fight sickness will depend on the type and dosage of ingredients in the formula. Taking greens powders for immunity was one of the main reasons I first started looking at these powdered supplements.

Mental Clarity and Well-being

Some brands contain brain nutrients that can improve memory, concentration, mental clarity, and overall cognitive health.

Green formulas containing herbs called adaptogens can also help you adapt to stress and reduce anxiety, which means a calmer and more relaxed day.

Improved Digestion and Bloating

A great diet depends on being able to absorb the nutrients in your gut and this is where digestive enzymes and probiotics play a role.

The addition of fiber in greens can also help with having more regular bowel movements too!

The effects of acute and chronic inflammation on the body have severe consequences for healthy living. Consuming a good quality greens powder for inflammation can be just the longer-term support to consume anti-inflammatory ingredients for your health.

Weight Loss

Most superfood supplements see weight management as more a secondary benefit that can work by eliminating cravings, and so naturally suppressing your appetite. Some superfood powders can aid weight loss better than others, check the link for my round-up of best products.

Supergreen TONIK

How To Choose A Good Greens Powder?

It’s clear from the benefits that consuming a daily greens drink is worth considering, but just how do you go about picking the best greens powders?

Firstly, don’t be bamboozled by marketing jargon and what seem like amazing deals, it’s important to look beyond the hype and understand what you’re really putting inside your body.

Remember, not all green superfood supplements are made equal. Supplement companies are really clever at promoting their formula whether it be in a pill or powder. When I delved into different green superfood supplements in my reviews I often felt let down and that the products were lacking in transparency.

This was my motivation to create the best greens powder brand on the market, the outcome was SuperGreen TONIK. I have addressed all the major factors that should be considered when looking to purchase a greens supplement.

IMPORTANT Considerations When Choosing Greens Superfood

  • Ingredients and Amounts – The effectiveness of any supplement is based on its ingredients and amounts in the formula. Each ingredient should be present in the minimum effective dosage in order to work
  • Serving Size – Following on from the ingredient amount point, a small serving size and lots of ingredients means it is unlikely to contain enough of each to be as effective as stated
  • Ingredient Transparency – I want to know exactly what I am taking, so a full list of each ingredient and their amounts on the label
  • Cost Effective – I don’t tend to reach for the cheapest brand in anything as I believe in value. Sometimes the upfront cost may seem expensive when in fact it works out to be most cost effective
  • Money-back Guarantee – It’s reassuring when a company stands behind their brand. Ideally want to see a guarantee of some sort, the longer the better
  • Good Taste – It needs to taste at least okay, ideally the powder should be palatable when mixed just with cold water
  • Company Pedigree – Not essential this one, but I think it is nice to know who is behind the company

Only one green superfood powder ticks every box in the list above, and for good reason. My supplement was developed based on the core principles above.

But, please don’t just take my word for it, take a look for yourself, visit and see for yourself.

Frequently asked Questions

If superfood powders or powdered greens are new to you then you may have a few questions. Let me address some of the frequently asked greens powder questions here.

Are Green Supplements Worth It?

They can be as long as you buy a good quality supplement that contains ingredients in the right dosage.

The highest quality greens powder is not cheap though, because they should contain a good amount of nutrients. The cost can be anywhere between $50 – $97 per month for popular brands.

Whether the cost of investing in a supplement is worth it for you, will depend on your lifestyle, and if you eat a well-balanced and nutritious diet.

Should I take super green?

A powdered green supplement can be a great way to improve your overall health and wellbeing because they contain vitamins, minerals, oxidants, and in many cases other beneficial nutrients you may not get in your diet.

Greens powders are often considered much better than multivitamins as they are more nutrient-dense and easy to digest.

Are powdered greens as good as fresh?

You can never fully replace fresh greens from your own garden. That’s not to say that greens powders aren’t a healthy alternative. Ideally, you should consume superfood supplements alongside a balanced diet rich in fruit and vegetables.

Supplementing with superfoods alongside your regular diet is the best way to ensure you’re consuming your required intake of greens.

Can a Greens Supplement Boost My Immunity?

Many of the top greens powders contain ingredients that have been proven to support your immune system and can help to fight off the flu.

As well as supplying vitamins like A, B, C, E, K, and other minerals, greens powders are an excellent source of antioxidants and phytonutrients.

If you are deficient in these nutrients, them consuming one of these greens drinks daily will help plug any nutritional gaps you may have.

Best time to have greens powder?

There is no one best time to consume a greens powder as this depends very much on your schedule. If you are following an intermittent fasting schedule then you would need to have your greens powder during your eating window.

Having your greens powder drink first thing in the morning is popular with many consumers as they feel it sets them up for the day ahead.

Do powdered greens expire?

Like all supplements, greens powders have an expiry date that is typically two years from the manufacturing date. After this two-year shelf life, the greens will become less potent and beneficial.

All greens supplements should have either a manufactured date or expiry date on their label. So, if you’re in doubt check your greens label or reach out to the manufacturer to check.

Don’t neglect your fresh greens

Creating my Super Greens Supplement

Although powerful greens supplements are available, they aren’t a license to neglect your diet and start eating whatever you want.

The best way to look at superfood supplements is to keep in mind the word “supplement” – they are meant to “supplement” an already well-balanced diet.

I take my supplement every day not just to top-up my nutrients but to get other ingredients not typically found in your everyday diet. Ingredients such as Ashwagandha Root and Rhodiola Rosea have proven benefits for improving productivity, reducing levels of perceived stress, and numerous health benefits too.

If you find your diet is lacking or you want to ensure you are getting your optimal greens daily, then choosing one of these superfood powders could be the answer.

About the LifeHacker Guy

Hi, I'm Adam the founder of the LifeHacker Guy.

I have a First Class Honours degree in Sports Science from Brighton University, specialising in exercise physiology and nutrition. In my youth I was a competitive Triathlete and long-distance runner placing top 10 in most triathlon races I completed.

Since suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, I moved into web development, after a couple of years I then moved onto developing a number of online businesses. I've recently taken a sabbatical and I'm now looking to make big changes in my life, hopefully this may resonate with you - join me in my journey!

  1. I have been taking the morning complete and find it to give me terrible, gas, bloating and belly pressure. What would you recommend in lieu of this product that will not cause these digestive issues. Thank so much!!

  2. Is it ok to consume green superfoods and coffee in the same? I’m looking to introduce one of these options to my supplements routine but don’t want to overpower my energy supplement with my drinking coffee every morning. Do you think I’d be okay if I did the super greens midday several hours after my coffee?

    1. Hey Melisa,
Thank you for commenting and apologies for taking so long to reply (I miss it!).
I would space out the timing for consuming greens and coffee. I typically take my greens in the afternoon as I enjoy taking it then. I also tend to follow intermittent fasting and so just black coffee in the morning.
Otherwise, you could grab your coffee if you prefer first thing and then have a greens mid-morning would also work well.

  3. Superfood powders and greens can help you to lose weight if they are combined with a healthy diet and fitness regime. If taken before a meal, studies find that super greens can improve your probiotics, digestion and also increase satiety, helping you to feel fuller.

    1. Thanks Eric,
That’s right, there are no magic slimming cures. Powdered greens are a great way to top-up with all your nutrients, more than you would just taking a multivitamin capsule, and they are low in calories too (typically 40-50 kcals per serving).

  4. Hi Adam. Thanks for publishing this list. I am always looking for the best things to put into my body. When I was reviewing your list I noticed that you did not have a certain brand on your list. Are you familiar with Vitamineral Green? It is manufactured by Healthforce Superfoods. It has a lot of positive customer reviews but I haven’t noticed any expert reviews. I’ve been trying it and like it, but am curious if you have tested it or reviewed it.
